Mortar
Modern propellant technology for mortar propulsion
Modern high-performance propulsion systems for mortars consist of combustible containers containing appropriate propellants that offer high performance, precision, resistance to rough handling and long-term stability combined with improved IM properties.
For 120 mm mortars, Nitrochemie is offering nitrocellulose-based combustible cartridge containers (CCC) which are produced in the beater additive process.
CCC technology offers excellent mechanical strength, even at low temperatures. Combustibility is very good due to high nitrocellulose content of up to 80 %.
For mortar propellants, Nitrochemie is offering propellants based on its well established EI® and ECL® technology for different mortar calibres. These propellants offer high performance, precision and long-term stability combined with a reduced temperature dependence.Using these technologies offers the following benefits:
- Propellant recipe does not contain nitroglycerine (ECL® technology) respectively only low quantities of nitroglycerine (EI® technology). This improves ballistic stability and shelf life and avoids diffusion of nitroglycerine from the propellant into the container material.
- Both technologies offer higher performance as compared to single base propellants and ball powder.
Nitrochemie is offering a comprehensive product portfolio for all commonly used calibres in mortars.
